Oracle

2007
Variable dimensions
Construction in wood, electrical cables, electronic circuits and 4 MP3 audio players
Collection of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo

The Oracle is an object made of yellow monochrome wood that has eight spatially spaced speakers. It is activated by inserting any coin. When activated, it produces the sound of four stereo voices for 30 seconds, speaking about topics in the exact sciences. Each voice deals with a science. A female voice speaks about mathematics, a child about biology, a man about physics and a robotic voice about chemistry. An electronic circuit controls the duration of each of the voices, which overlap, generating infinite combinations. The voices are pre-recorded and were generated synthetically by means of text reader software. Furthermore, when activated, a light bulb lights up in the eye showing calculations, formulas and a rotating motor that symbolizes the central processing unit (CPU).

It was exhibited in the solo show Autômatos Monocromáticos in 2007 at the gallery A Gentil Carioca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
