Automatic bivolt work
Nenflidio went for a walk on the beach in the morning. On the way he met fishermen who were complaining about the previous night’s catch. When they pulled up the net, there were no fish. Just a bunch of plastic pipes and fittings and electronic parts. Nenflidio soon realized that it was scrap from a marine automaton and asked the fishermen for the material he had found. In his studio, Nenflidio tried out all possible ways of fitting the parts together, resulting in an animal with a long tail and five arms with mouths at the ends. He was very surprised when he turned on the animal: the automaton began to improvise microtonal jazz, firing notes through its mouth. It is called Speaker because in addition to producing sound through speakers, it is also a speaker for an underwater jazz band.
The work was exhibited in 2016 at Hellerau in the city of Dresden in Germany in the exhibition Gambiarra Sonora curated by Chico Dub and in the solo exhibition Invenções Híbridas at Caixa Cultural São Paulo in 2019 curated by Fernanda Vogas.
