Suspension Experiment n1

Variable dimensions
Installation with nylon lines, sandstone rock, pulleys, steel counterweights, Marupá base and Pink Cedar box
Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo
In Suspension Experiment n1 a small rock is suspended a short distance from the ground through a system of 24 pulleys with steel counterweights tensioned by nylon wires that alone would not support the weight of the rock. Together, the entire system maintains a balance of forces. While the rock is suspended, it also suspends the steel counterweights. The work has a wooden box that holds each of the pieces, forming a kind of scientific experiment game. It can be presented in its installation form or disassembled in the box. In the latter, it reserves the sensation of the imminent suspension experience.
It was produced especially for the solo exhibition Universo Invisível shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo in 2021, curated and with critical text by Helouise Costa.
