Collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro

The Totem is a wooden sculpture with internal electronic circuits. It has a presence sensor that turns on the circuit when it detects movement and another proximity sensor that triggers the sound when someone approaches less than one meter away from the object. The sound produced is chaotic and has among the sound elements 4 motors, an AM radio and a CD with recorded sounds.

It was presented in 2007 at the exhibition Contraditório – Panorama das Artes Visuais Brasileira – MAM SP and in 2008 at Alcalá 31 – Madrid, curated by Moacir dos Anjos.
